Our new web indexing system, Caffeine, makes it easier for you to find
more content from all over the world much faster—as soon after it's
published as possible. Caffeine is the largest collection of web
content we've offered, and results for web searches are 50 percent
fresher than our previous index. Instead of refreshing one or two
layers of the index at a time (some at a faster rate than others),
Caffeine analyzes the web in small portions and then continuously
updates the global index. As new pages and information are found,
they're added to the index more quickly. This means that the content
you find on Google is more international, and fresher, than ever
before. Better yet, this new system sets us up to make more
improvements down the line that will keep making Google search faster
and more comprehensive.

Google Wave open to everyone

Google Wave is now available to everyone as part of Google Labs. And
if you use Google Apps, you can enable Wave for your domain. Since we
began previewing Google Wave six months ago, it has been used in many
interesting ways to share, discuss and get work done with groups of

New look for Google search

We've added a new left-hand panel to the search results page that
brings together the most relevant search tools and refinements for any
given query. With the panel, you can quickly and easily jump to and
from different types of results- like Books, Images or News- or narrow
down results by time or topic. The new "Something different" feature,
which you'll sometimes see at the bottom of the left-hand panel, helps
you find other topics that are related to your query. In addition to
this new navigation, we also slightly changed our logo to be brighter
and simpler.

enough game time, we've set up a permanent home for the game so you
can keep playing. Press the "Insert Coin" button twice and Ms. PAC-MAN
joins the party for a two-player game. (Ms. PAC-MAN is controlled by

Small businesses are an essential part of the economy, but it can be
hard to make your business a success, especially in tough times. We're
proud that over the years, Google tools — like AdWords, AdSense and
search—have helped many entrepreneurs find customers and grow their
business, both on and offline. So we've released a report with
information about how Google generates economic activity for
businesses across the United States. Browse by state to hear from
businesses in your state how they're using Google to build their

Share your bookmarks

Saving and sharing bookmarks is now easier, faster and more social.
With a single click, you can now share your bookmarks with your
friends on Facebook and your followers on Twitter or Buzz. We show you
how many people are following your list so you can track how the
popularity of your lists change over time. We've also created a
bookmarklet that allows you to add any page on the web to any of your
lists, directly from your browser's toolbar, with just one click. When
viewing a page that you would like to add to one of your bookmark
lists, click the bookmarklet in your browser's toolbar, select the
list you want to add it to and you're done. To use this feature, drag
the bookmarklet button from any list page to your toolbar.

We think it's important for government information to be made
available and accessible to the public. To support this goal, we
recently introduced the Public Data Explorer, an experimental
visualization tool in Google Labs designed to help you comprehend
large volumes of data and statistics through rich visualizations. You
can mash up data from public agencies, non-profits and organizations
using line graphs, bar graphs, maps and bubble charts. We also
recently announced a partnership with the Sunlight Foundation to
support the Design for America contest to make government data more
comprehensible to the public. If you live in the U.S. and have ideas
for how government data can be made more accessible and transparent,
the deadline to enter the contest is May 17.

Social Search
Google Social Search helps you discover relevant web content from your
friends and online contacts. Social Search is based on the idea that
content from your friends and social contacts is often more relevant
to you than content from strangers. For example, a movie review from
an expert is useful- but a movie review from your best friend can be
even better. You'll see Social Search results under "Results from
people in your social circle" on the results page. You can also see
social results by clicking the "Social" option on the Search Options
menu. Of course, you'll only see social results when relevant content
to your query exists. Social Search is in beta.

web pages or whatever might be on your mind. Buzz is built right into
Gmail and available on mobile phones. You can connect other sites you

Google Fiber for Communities

To encourage the deployment of better, faster Internet access, we're
planning to build ultra high-speed broadband networks in a small
number of trial locations across the United States. We'll deliver
Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans
have access to today with 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home
connections. The service will be available at a competitive price to
at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people. Local
governments, residents and community groups can visit our website to
express their interest in being part of this initiative.

To help celebrate the Winter Games, we expanded our Street View
coverage in Canada and launched the world's first Street View
snowmobile imagery. Now you can use Street View in 130 new Canadian
cities and see special collections of all venues, including the
Whistler Blackcomb ski slopes. In addition, you can keep up with the
latest from the Games, including schedules and results, YouTube
videos, highlights from Google News and "Favorite Places" in
Vancouver, on our comprehensive site.

NEW PRODUCTS & UPDATES

Introducing Nexus One

The Nexus One mobile phone powered by Android is now available. This
device combines the latest hardware from HTC, featuring dynamic noise
suppression and a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon™ chipset. It's also powered
by the latest Android software, which includes a voice-enabled
keyboard, Google Maps Navigation, fun Live Wallpapers and a 3D photo
gallery. With the launch of Nexus One, we also introduced a new way to
purchase a mobile phone — through the Google-hosted web store. You can
buy the Nexus One without service (meaning any GSM network SIM card
can be inserted into the device), or purchase the phone with service
from T-Mobile USA. More operators, including Verizon Wireless in the
U.S. and Vodafone in Europe, more devices, and more countries will be
added to the store in the future.

Places near me now

Need to find a nearby restaurant, coffee shop or bar on the fly — or
maybe an ATM or bank? "Near me now" uses your phone's location
information to help you search for nearby places easier and faster.
With just a few taps you can check out customer reviews, jump to a map
to help you get there or call the business. To try it, go to
google.com using your Android or iPhone browser and click on "Near me
now". Note that you must first enable My Location by tapping the
location "update" link. This feature is available on google.com in the
U.S. for Android-powered devices (2.0.1+) and iPhone (3.x+).

Upload any file

You can now upload, store and share any file in Google Docs, giving
you one place where you can upload and access your key files online.
We support files up to 1GB in size. So instead of carrying a USB drive
or emailing a file to yourself, you can use Google Docs to access your
files on different computers. This can also help you work with teams
to organize and collaborate on information online, especially when
combined with shared folders.

Supporting disaster relief in Haiti

Following the 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti, we released a
globally available page with detailed post-earthquake satellite
imagery, opportunities to donate, other resources and avenues to help,
mapmaker data, and free voice calls to Haiti through Google Voice.
Using 20 percent time, Google engineers also developed the Person
Finder application for identifying and updating the status of missing
people, which can be embedded on other organizations' websites.

Google Favorite Places

Based on Google users' interaction with local business listings, we
identified more than 100,000 businesses in the U.S. as "Favorite
Places on Google". Each business is receiving a window decal with a
unique QR code that you scan with your phone to read reviews, star the
business as a favorite and more.
